2  In this history I shall present the various events in relation to this Church, in truth and righteousness, as they have transpired, or as they at present exist, being now [1838] the eighth ^byear since the organization of the said Church.

  3  And they said unto him: Lord, we will that thou wouldst tell us the ^aname whereby we shall call this church; for there are disputations among the people concerning this matter.

  1  Hearken, O ye people of my ^bchurch, saith the voice of him who dwells on high, and whose eyes are upon all men; yea, verily I say: Hearken ye people from afar; and ye that are upon the islands of the sea, listen together.

  18  Now the ^bbirth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

  3  Which church was ^borganized and established in the year of your Lord eighteen hundred and thirty, in the fourth month, and on the sixth day of the month which is called April.

  21  Let no man break the ^alaws of the land, for he that keepeth the laws of God hath no need to break the laws of the land.

  4  And now, verily I say unto you concerning the ^alaws of the land, it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them.

  4  For thus shall my ^bchurch be called in the last days, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  2  Let all the people of ^aThe ^aChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and those who journey with them, be organized into companies, with a covenant and promise to keep all the commandments and statutes of the Lord our God.
